On April 4, 2013, flight operations were launched in the outskirts of the city of Kassel.
Due to the successful cooperation between the Federal State of Hessen, the city and district of Kassel as well as the municipality of Calden, the airport offers the economically dynamic region of Northern Hessen a successful outlook in the medium term.
The airport expansion and operation has already generated positive effects in terms of creating value and employment, thus highlighting the airport’s importance for the economy of the region.
Currently, passengers are able to take flights from Kassel to traditional holiday destinations, such as Mallorca, Dalmatia and Turkey. The flight schedule of Kassel-Calden airport also features such interesting destinations as Reykjavík and Tbilisi. Over the coming years, it is planned to further expand air traffic. The State of Hessen holds 68% of the shares of Flughafen Kassel GmbH.
