The tasks of the Hessian Ministry of the Environment, Climate Protection, Agriculture and Consumer Protection are as manifold as its official designation.
As the State’s highest-ranking administrative authority, the Ministry presents bills in State or Federal parliament and is responsible for the sustainable protection of mankind and their natural resources.
This includes the protection of nature and the environment, of ground, water and air and climate, just as much as the monitoring of food safety, economic consumer protection and animal welfare. Other important tasks of the Ministry are radiation protection and nuclear safety. The aim of the Hessian city development policies and real estate development is the sustainable, integrated development of the cities and communities as attractive economic and residential locations.
In addition, the department is also in charge of agriculture and forestry and development in rural areas, with one focal point being financial promotion for ecological, agricultural and forestry activities. In Hessen, wine and fruit growing also is of a particularly high importance.
